Detention for debt: Ouahbi reports 22,315 notices cancelled and 3,991 releases

Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi told the House of Councillors on 27 October 2026 that 22,315 search notices had been cancelled and 3,991 people released under changes to detention for debt.

According to the minister, the measures followed a review of cases under the new conditions introduced by the Code of Criminal Procedure. Reports refer in particular to age criteria and the size of debts subject to this custodial measure.

This is a cumulative assessment announced in Parliament, rather than releases all carried out on 27 October. The figures remain attributed to the minister: the reports consulted do not provide a detailed administrative dataset allowing independent verification.
