2027 budget bill: opposition questions purchasing-power measures

During the finance committee’s discussion of the 2027 budget bill on 28 October 2026, the PJD and Popular Movement described purchasing-power measures as insufficient, according to Hespress and Arabic-language reporting.

The PJD group asked the government to clarify its economic choices and the method used to calculate expected tax revenue. Its leader, Driss El Azami El Idrissi, argued that higher sectoral allocations alone do not explain the policy being pursued.

Rim Chabat, who leads the Popular Movement group, criticised the proposed reduction in subsidy allocations from MAD 22 billion in 2026 to MAD 19.4 billion in 2027. She also highlighted the forecasts’ dependence on the grain harvest and international energy prices.

These are parliamentary objections to the bill, rather than established findings about its future effects. The text remains under scrutiny; the criticism does not amount to adopted amendments or rejection of the budget.
