Malaysia announces seizure of 30 servers containing AI chips

Malaysian customs announced on 28 October 2026 that it had seized 30 servers containing advanced AI chips, valued at about 49.5 million ringgit, or $12.1 million. The interception took place on 15 October in Kuala Lumpur airport’s free trade zone.

According to the airport customs director, the servers had been declared as electronic components and were to be re-exported from one Asian country to another without the required permit. A Malaysian company was asked to assist the investigation.

The origin and destination countries and chip manufacturer have not been disclosed. Suspicions of circumventing controls remain under investigation; they are not a court finding.
